The Middle of the Night Wake-Up Call

It’s those moments in the middle of the night when your child, spouse, or any loved one wakes you up with some kind of emergency that makes you especially grateful for herbal remedies. For example, the earache — usually accompanied with whimpers and tears (again this could be your child or spouse), can be daunting.  But here is an arsenal of soothing remedies that can help bring comfort, sleep, and assistance to the body (these are just a few):

  • Tincture of Goldenseal and Echinacea:  A few drops in the ear, as well as taken internally can assist the body in fighting infection.
  • Tea Tree Oil (also known as melaleuca oil):  Place 1-2 drops on a cotton ball and gently place the cotton ball in the ear. Tea Tree Oil is known for its anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral properties.  It can assist the body in fighting infection as well.
  • Garlic Oil:  This mixture must be relatively fresh but is also very effective.  Garlic is known for its anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral properties and can also assist the body in fighting infection.  Consider taking garlic internally as well.
  • Don’t forget the Lavender:  When dealing with the discomfort of an earache, it can be hard to get back to sleep.  When all herbal remedies have been administered and nothing else can be done but to wait, sometimes Lavender Essential Oil is a helpful tool in promoting sleep.  Put some on the forehead, drop some on a pillow or apply it to the feet.

Hopefully, when all is said and done, the tears will disappear, the whimpers will quiet, and everyone can get some sleep!
